Launch of Door County Young Professionals Network

DCEDC supported initiative launches November 12th
Door County, WI, October 20, 2015 – The Door County Economic Development Corporation (DCEDC) is proud to announce the launch of the Door County Young Professionals Network (DC YPN) with two events in 2015. On Thursday, November 12th, 6-8pm, Door County Brewing Company (2434 County Highway F, Baileys Harbor, WI) will host the inaugural YPN social event. The second event will be Thursday December 10th at Starboard Brewing Company (151 North 3rd Ave, Sturgeon Bay, WI), also 6-8pm. These events will serve as an opportunity for young professionals in the area to learn about this new organization and to meet other young professionals in a relaxed setting. Both events will feature food, refreshments and trivia contests with prizes donated by local businesses. The purpose of the Young Professionals Network is to help attract and retain young professionals in Door County through social, educational and community service programming.
Beginning in January 2016, DC YPN will offer a regular schedule of monthly events, including professional development, community service projects and social gatherings, throughout the length and breadth of the peninsula. Individual and business memberships to the Network will be available, with pricing information to be announced.
DCEDC contracted with Gibraltar High School graduate Caitlin Oleson to research best practices around the state and then help establish the local Network. Oleson conducted an online survey in April 2015 which showed overwhelming enthusiasm for an organization specifically focused on individuals aged 21 to 40 in our community. Among the data, the survey found that 33.75% of respondents grew up here and 35.00% were recruited by a Door County company. These numbers reinforce the need for an organization that works to engage both newcomers and those who have grown up in Door County to create a stronger community.
“We’ve had a lot of great feedback from young people in the community and I believe this launch comes at an opportune time,” says Oleson. “The DC YPN will work to ensure a thriving business and volunteer community for Door County’s coming generations.”
