Jim Olson Automotive Group Named Door County Industry of the Year

The Door County Economic Development Corporation announced today that the Jim Olson Automotive Group is the winner of the Door County Industry of the Year Award. The annual award recognizes a local construction, service or manufacturing business that has made a substantial impact on the community and enjoyed significant accomplishments during the past year. The announcement came during the DCEDC annual investors meeting at Stone Harbor Resort & Conference Center in Sturgeon Bay.

The Jim Olson Automotive Group consists of four divisions, all located in Sturgeon Bay, WI:

  • Jim Olson Motors (Chevrolet-Buick-Cadillac)
  • Jim Olson Express (quick lube, tire and brake center)
  • Jim Olson Motorcars (Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep-Ram)
  • Jim Olson Ford Lincoln

Between the four divisions, the company currently employs 85 full time and 20 part time employees.

Prior to establishing his four Sturgeon Bay businesses (in 2006, 2011, 2012 and 2014) Jim Olson spent over 30 years with the Heiser Automotive Group in Milwaukee. Jim has a demonstrated record of success in sales management, hiring, training, advertising, promotions and customer relations.

In 2014, the Jim Olson Automotive Group opened Jim Olson Ford Lincoln, in which it committed nearly $3 Million to acquire new and used vehicle inventory, parts, tools and supplies, equipment and furnishings to commence operations at 120 Green Bay Road. The company likewise invested several million dollars in 2012 to establish its Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep-Ram dealership, located at the corner of Highway 42 and North Duluth Avenue. In 2013, the organization completed an extensive remodel and expansion of its flagship Chevrolet-Buick-Cadillac dealership. Since 2011, it has also operated the Jim Olson Express facility on Egg Harbor road, providing customers with easy and convenient access to oil change, tire installation and other automotive maintenance services.

Since it began operations, the Jim Olson Automotive Group enjoyed steady and successful growth in annual sales. The company anticipates that its new Ford Lincoln dealership will add significantly in the overall group operations.

Jim is very active in the Sturgeon Bay community as a member of the Sturgeon Bay Breakfast Rotary club, and an active supporter of the Door County Boys & Girls club, serving as the presenting sponsor of their major fundraiser, the Boys & Girls Club Celebrity Golf Outing, which is held annually at Horseshoe Bay Golf Club. He is also Co-chair of the Club’s capital campaign.

“We are pleased to recognize Jim Olson Automotive Group as our industry of the year,” said DCEDC Executive Director Bill Chaudoir. “Their continued growth and investment in our community are welcome indicators of optimism for a bright future. We hope that will continue for many years to come.”

This year marks the 42nd year of the Door County Industry of the Year Award, first presented by the Door County Chamber of Commerce in 1973. Last year’s award winner was Hatco Corporation. Other recent winners of the Industry of the Year Award include Renard’s Cheese Store & Deli, WireTech Fabricators, Roen Salvage Company and Door Peninsula Winery.
