Export Financing Official To Meet With Door County Businesses

On Wednesday, August 16, 2006, Door County Economic Development Corporation (DCEDC), in cooperation with the Northeast Wisconsin International Business Consortium, will host an informational meeting about Export Financing with Mike Howard, Director of the Export-Import Bank of the United States, Chicago Regional Office. The meeting is scheduled for 1:30pm on Wednesday, August 16 at the DCEDC office located at 185 East Walnut Street, Sturgeon Bay.

Mr. Howard, who is traveling in Door County that week, is also willing to schedule one-on-one appointments with interested businesses after the formal meeting. There is no cost to attend the meeting or for the individual sessions.

The Export-Import Bank of the United States (Ex-Im Bank) is the official export credit agency of the United States, whose primary mission is to assist in financing the export of US goods and services to international markets. Ex-Im Bank provides working capital guarantees (pre-export financing); export credit insurance; loan guarantees; and loans (buyer financing).

“This is an excellent opportunity for Door County businesses to learn more about the various offerings of the Export-Import Bank,” said DCEDC Executive Director Bill Chaudoir. “Our local companies can find out how the Ex-Im Bank might assist in the increased export of Door County products.”

Ex-Im Bank does not compete with private sector lenders but provides export financing products that fill gaps in trade financing. They assume credit and country risks that the private sector is unable or unwilling to accept. They also help level the playing field for U.S. exporters by matching the financing that other governments provide to their exporters. The Ex-Im Bank enables U.S. companies – large and small – to turn export opportunities into real sales that help to maintain and create U.S. jobs, thereby contributing to a stronger national economy.

To register for the August 16 meeting with Mr. Howard or to schedule a one-on-one appointment, local business owners should contact Bill Chaudoir at 920-743-3113 x203 or electronically at bill@doorcountybusiness.com. Space is limited, so interested companies are encouraged to reserve space right away.
