Door County Delegates Wanted

Adult applicants are sought for the October 2015 delegation that will travel to Door County’s Sister City of Jingdezhen, China. A delegation of ten or fewer will be guests of the City of Jingdezhen for four days in mid-October and will be treated to a tour of a variety of cultural and community events and sights, including the 2015 International Ceramic Fair.

Jingdezhen is located approximately 275 miles southwest of Shanghai. The City of Jingdezhen is known as the “Porcelain Capital of the World” and has been creating porcelain and other ceramic products for more than 1,700 years.

All Door County delegation expenses, travel, food and lodging while in Jingdezhen will be provided by the City of Jingdezhen. Members of the Door County delegation are responsible for the cost of their transportation to and from Jingdezhen and for any side trips.

Since May 2004 the County of Door has had a Sister City relationship with the City of Jingdezhen. Over the eleven-year period of the Sister City program, activities have focused on mutual communications of good will and delegate travel exchanges by representatives of the two communities.

Most recently a five-member delegation from Jingdezhen visited Door County in July, and a seven-member delegation from Door County visited Jingdezhen in late April 2015. Door County has received an invitation for a delegation to travel to Jingdezhen in October 2015. The goal is to have a Door County delegation that is comprised of people of varied backgrounds, occupations and interests, to represent the various aspects of the Door County community.

While there is no formal deadline for applying to be a member of the Door County delegation, it will be limited to ten members and openings will be filled as applications are received and approved. The final delegation membership will be completed as soon as possible, but no later than early September to fully prepare for the October travel.
