Legislative Day

Door County Legislative Day is a biennial trip to the state capital in Madison by Door County residents, elected officials, business owners and other stakeholders, to bring a locally agreed-upon agenda of Door County issues directly to state elected officials and government agency leaders.

May 8 and 9, 2007 were the dates for the third Door County Legislative Days event in Madison. Door County Legislative Days was again headquartered at the Inn On The Park hotel on Capitol Square in downtown Madison.  The main events were scheduled on Tuesday, May 8th, when delegates called on state legislators in the afternoon and enjoyed a reception, authentic Door County fish boil dinner and entertainment in the evening. The remainder of the two-day event was reserved for visiting state officials and selected state agencies.

Among the direct results of Legislative Days 2007 efforts, the County is now able to exempt the entire levy portion of the ambulance service budget from the State imposed cap; public schools were supported by continuing two-thirds funding under the equalized aid formula; Governor Doyle signed a state budget which reauthorized the Stewardship Fund at $85 million per year for 10 years with legislative oversight; and bipartisan legislation which requires that owners of propane and other fuel storage tanks join a statewide communication system, prompted by the tragic propane-related Ellison Bay explosions, was signed into law in April 2008.
