Capital for the Day
As a direct result of our efforts in Madison during
Door County Legislative Day 2005, on July 14, 2005
Governor Jim Doyle proclaimed Door County as the
Capital of Wisconsin for the day. The Governor, First
Lady Jessica Doyle, Lt. Governor Barbara Lawton and
15 members of the Doyle Cabinet spent the entire
day in the county, touring area businesses and community
organizations, participating in over 50 meetings
and events, from Southern Door Schools all the way
to Washington Island.
Durring Capital for the Day, Governor Doyle outlined a number of investments and budget proposals that would directly benefit Door County, including funding for a new Sturgeon Bay bridge, funds to implement the Sturgeon Bay Shipbuilding Cluster Master Plan and an increase in the state Department of Touism budget.
